Asynchronous Operations

Some BigPanda requests start work that takes time to finish — for example, uploading a mapping enrichment table. These endpoints respond immediately and process the work in the background.

How asynchronous calls work

An asynchronous endpoint returns 202 Accepted along with a Location header. The Location header points to a Job resource that tracks the work.

To get the result:

Send the original request and read the 202 Accepted response.

Note the Job URL in the Location header.

Send a GET request to the Job URL to check status.

Repeat until the job reports that it is complete, then read the result.

For example, poll a mapping enrichment job:

Wait between status checks rather than polling in a tight loop. A short, fixed interval with a backoff is enough for most jobs.

Treat a 429 Too Many Requests response as a signal to slow your polling.
