Make your first API call

Make your first authenticated request in three steps. This example retrieves your organization's environments — a safe, read-only call that confirms your key and region are correct.

Step 1: Generate a User API Key

In BigPanda, open the User menu, select API Keys, and create a new key. Copy the value — it is shown only once. See Authentication and Headers for details.

Step 2: Confirm your region

Determine whether your organization is hosted on the US or EU instance. The US base URL is https://api.bigpanda.io. For the EU, use https://api.eu.bigpanda.io.

Toggle between regions for sample code and examples at the center top of each documentation. Your previous selection will be remembered through browser cookies during your current site session.

Step 3: Send a request

Run the following request, replacing <your_api_key> with the key you generated:

A 200 OK response with a JSON array of environments confirms your key and region are working.

Send a test alert

To send data instead of reading it, post an alert to the Alerts API. Replace <your_app_key> with the App Key from your integration:

A 201 Created response means BigPanda accepted the alert.
